The Arnold family business was first started in 1972 by Bill & Eric Arnold when they set up a stall on Bury St Edmunds market supplying vegetables, salads and flowers grown at their own Hillcrest Nurseries in Stanton. Robert Arnold and his sister Sharon, who are now the main shareholders of the business, started part time work on the market stall and at the nursery from the age of around 12 years old.
Robert joined the business full time when he left school at age 15 and because of his eager interest in lorries and transport, the family bought a lorry and put his name on it when he was just 20, even before he could drive it. They employed a driver to move road haulage transport goods under the name Robert Arnold and when Robert reached 21 he passed his test and the business started to grow. This means that Robert Arnold Transport, now Robert Arnold Ltd has been operating the road haulage business for 50 years.
The transport business grew steadily over the first 10 years, largely due to its association with the Estron Groupe moving large volumes of freight in and out of Felixstowe docks. The business has maintained its position as a highly respected transport company in the East of England and expanded its client base to work alongside some of the major import / export organisations in the UK.
The company base is still the family owned Hillcrest Nursery at Stanton, near Bury St Edmunds. The wholesale fruit and vegetable company Arnolds Produce also operates from here distributing produce throughout East Anglia.
The family and haulage business background ensure that clients of Robert Arnold Transport receive the most professional, efficient and reliable service at real value for money rates.
